CORNELIUS NC: This week—friends, customers, and fellow Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce members celebrated the ribbon cutting for Walls of Books located in Shops on the Green. Cornelius Mayor Woody Washam, Mayor Pro-Tem Mike Miltich, and Commissioner Dave Gilroy were there to congratulate Owner Melinda Humphries.
“I have to have a book in my hands…Love the store! Love the titles you bring in.”
—Bill Russell, President, Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce
How Trade for Books works
Humphreys described the Trade for Books business concept. Customers bring in used books to receive store credit which is noted on a card that the customer keeps. That credit can be used for up to 50% off the price of a used book. If you return a book with their yellow price sticker still on it, you receive 50% store credit for that book. In addition to a great selection of used books, with more arriving daily, there are new books and book-related items.
“I love the community. I love books.”
—Melinda Humphreys, Owner, Walls of Books
Everyone there was discussing their favorite books, the first book they read that impressed them, and whether they read fiction, non-fiction, historical books and/or biographies. Humphries spoke about the Walls of Books franchise helping her to obtain her initial stock of about 20,000 books. However, now she is independently selecting her books from what customers bring in and other sources.
“It’s a good story to tell. Thank you for choosing Cornelius and this shopping center.”
—Cornelius Mayor Woody Washam
Not only do they have walls and walls of books, there are also comfortable places to sit while you make your selection.
And of course, there is a cat
No bookstore would be complete without a cat—who now has her own line of stickers representing Walls of Books.
A special thank you to Ocaid Photography for the ribbon cutting and interior photos.
